MD Billal Hosen is a law student at the University of Rajshahi and a researcher, writer, and filmmaker whose work bridges legal analysis and visual culture. He writes on world and Bangladeshi cinema for international and university publications, and directs independent short films recognized on the national festival circuit.
He is pursuing an LL.B (Honors, Major in Law) at the University of Rajshahi, having completed his HSC at Notre Dame College Mymensingh and SSC at Kalmakanda Government Pilot High School. At the Rajshahi University Legal Analysis Bureau, he conducts research on contemporary legal and policy issues and supports the drafting, editing, and proofreading of research papers, journal articles, and legal publications, working closely with faculty and fellow researchers to produce publication-ready scholarly work.
Law, Lens, and Storytelling
Billal writes feature articles, reviews, and critical essays on world cinema, film philosophy, and visual culture for CUT TO CINEMA Magazine, and on Bangladeshi and international cinema for Magic Lantern Film Magazine. As a filmmaker, he won the Best Cinematographer Award at the 4th Bangladesh Short Film Festival (organized by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy), directing and producing independent short films while leading cinematography and visual storytelling across multidisciplinary productions. He previously served as Joint Secretary of the Rajshahi University Photographic Club (2023–2024), coordinating photography events, workshops, and exhibitions, and worked as a photographer capturing images for partner restaurants across Rajshahi Division on the Foodpanda platform. He has also completed training in public policy (Institute for Inclusive Development / Muktopaath), legal mooting and courtroom advocacy (Faculty of Law, University of Rajshahi), and filmmaking fundamentals — storytelling, screenplay development, visual language, and directing (Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy).
